Lunch Drunk

Rather than keep all four lanes of an always-very-busy Broadway open, the city has seen fit to close off half of them and install the very useful, tranquil public space you see here.

You can't really get the extent (or non-extent) in this photo, but the overall effect is that someone has plopped down a one-inch layer of aquarium gravel and several small benches. SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

And people are sitting on them! For the love of Jay-Z, WHY? So they can get hit by stray cigarette butts and taxi driver spit from passing cars?

When they were putting it in I thought the only people who would use it would be tourists and hobos. Wrong. There's a bunch of business people. Most of them probably work in my building.

I cannot stress enough how depressing the vibe is. I'd rather take my salami and provolone and eat it in the john.

Maybe they're all doing phone interviews or something. One can only hope.

On Workplace Perks

The economy's tanking, Google's pulling arugula pesto chicken panini from the mouths of babies, but at MY job the livin's eaaaaaaaassssy.

Saw this on the fridge today. Managed to stop my hands from trembling with excitement long enough to snap this picture:
